Insurance & Coverage

Inner Room therapists are Registered Social Workers (RSW). Most extended health benefit plans cover RSW sessions. OHIP does not cover psychotherapy. No doctor's referral is required.

After each session, you receive an official receipt. Submit it directly to your insurer for reimbursement.

Check your benefits plan under "social work" or "psychotherapy" to confirm your coverage limits. Your plan administrator can confirm the specifics in under five minutes.

What therapy here looks like:

Stop performing. Be seen for who you actually are, not the role you play at work or at home.
Build real strategies for stress, burnout, and conflict. Not generic advice.
Work with a registered social worker who listens more than they talk.
Reconnect with the parts of yourself that got buried under obligation.
Find steadiness in the things that feel unmanageable.
Show up more honestly in your relationships, with less effort.
All sessions are virtual, PHIPA-compliant, and available province-wide.

Common Questions

Is therapy covered by insurance in Ontario?OHIP does not cover psychotherapy. However, most extended health benefit plans (through employers or personal coverage) do cover sessions with a Registered Social Worker. Check your plan under "social work" or "psychotherapy." After each session, we provide an official RSW receipt you can submit directly to your insurer for reimbursement.

Do I need a referral to start? No. You do not need a doctor's referral to work with one of our therapists. You can book a free consultation directly through our website and typically get started within days.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person?Research consistently shows that virtual therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for most concerns, including anxiety, depression, burnout, and relationship challenges. Many clients find the flexibility and privacy of virtual sessions actually enhances the work.

What happens in the free consultation? It's a 15-minute call with Vivian. You'll share what's going on, and she'll explain how Inner Room works. If it seems like a good fit, she'll match you with the right therapist on the team and help schedule your first session. If we're not the right fit, she'll say so — and point you somewhere that is.

How do I know which therapist is right for me?That's exactly what the free consultation is for. Vivian gets to know your situation and makes a thoughtful match based on your therapist's specializations, style, and availability. You don't have to figure this part out alone.

How soon can I start? Most clients have their first session within a week of their initial consultation. There is no formal waitlist. Book a free consultation and we'll take it from there.

Kind Words & Reviews

"Vivian is one of the most compassionate, kind and empathic people I've ever met. She listens objectively and helps me get to the root of the issue every time. I know therapy and personal growth progress in stages, with Vivian, this growth has been exponential. I've worked with other therapists before, but none like Vivian. It's evident Vivian cares tremendously about her clients through her attentiveness, attention to detail, and her non-judgemental nature. She's not just a good therapist, also a very good human."

Google Review

"I’ve had numerous therapists, social workers and counsellors over the years and Vivian Zhang is by far the very best of them. I am so grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to be able to work with her over the last year, and am especially grateful for her being there for me when my life turned particularly ‘nasty’ a few months ago. I only hope that the pandemic lets up and we get a chance to meet in person. Thank you Vivian!"

Google Review

"Vivian is absolutely wonderful to work with. She listens to what I need and gives me feedback instead of just taking it on and telling me what I want to hear. She has equipped me with helpful tools for overcoming my fears, and managing stress. Extremely grateful to be working with her."
